'TUCKI' is an 11 year old Kelpie cross dog that is owned by Pat
a lady who has given many volunteer hours over the years for ARRG.
Due to a hip operation in 2002 Pat has not been able to work.
In January 2002 she had to move and could not find anywhere to
rent that would take Tucki, she was waiting for a Department of
Housing placement.
Pat contacted ARRG for help and asked for temporary care for Tucki.
In March she was allocated her Department of Housing Unit but
was told no dogs. The reason she was given was because the Department
of Housing didn't want fences at the property, therefore she could
not have her much loved old pet.
Pat called us very upset and asked what would she do, how could
she find a home for her old dog?
ARRG decided to go in to 'bat' for Pat and her old dog. We believed
that giving up her aged pet was not an option, her doctor agreed
and provided a report stating that this owner needed her long
time friend 'Tucki'.
ARRG contacted the Department of Housing and questioned their
decision based on the fact that many Department of Housing areas
are allowed pets and that in areas such as Goonellabah the Department
actually provides new fencing for clients whether they have pets
or not.
Several phones to the Department of Housing later,we have reached
an agreement that if we provide fencing for Pat' small area of
garden and she provides lawn mowing around the fenced area she
can now take her pet home, which is where Tucki belongs.
We are currently chasing some good prices for suitable fencing
for the unit and hopefully we can afford to do this very soon
and return 'Tucki' back to her life long companion.
ARRG is very satisfied, another battle won, and ask ourselves what
happens to people like Pat and Tucki if their rights are not represented?
We don't just rescue abandoned animals we fight for many issues
of justice for animals and if needed pet owners to.
Would you like to help
us to help people like Pat and Tucki?
