Little
Orphan Annie (3 March
2005)
Orphan Annie was dumped
under the TAFE building in Lismore several weeks ago at only 3 weeks
old. On one of the hottest days she was left for dead.
Luckily a
lady heard what she thought was a bird squarking and investigated and
found this pup. As our OP shop is in central Lismore the lady rushed
the puppy to ARRG and our volunteers took her straight to the vet clinic.
It was touch
and go for the pup as the vets were very concerned that she may have
severe injuries and due to her young and tiny frame it was hard to diagnose
her condition. An agonising decision had to be made for her the well
being of the puppy as to whether she would recover and what the outcome
would be, not only the volunteers but the whole clinic felt the pressure
and the best chance she had was to find a surrogate mum.
The decision
was made to take her into foster care and bottle feed her until we could
hopefully find a whelping dog. Claire our foster carer found a female
retriever who'd given birth to only one puppy and Orhpan Annie was taken
immediatly to her, amazingly mum accepted Annie and all looked good
as picture no 2 shows. For the next 3 weeks Annie thrived due to the
care of mum dog and the wonderful owners ARRG REALLY THANKS THEM
FOR ALL THE DEDICATION AND HELP GIVEN TO SAVE Annie and help ARRG through
this. Pic no 3 shows
Annie is now 6 weeks old and due for her first vaccination. Annie's
breed is unknown but she is a small breed x possibly Sheltie x corgi
and will be ready for her new home in two weeks. ARRG volunteers are
overjoyed at the wonderful outcome for Annie and she re-inforces our
belief in never giving up, the true meaning of our No-Kill policy.
