Media Release December 2001:

Animal rights and rescue group far north coast is appealling to the public to help our rescue work.

ARRG is URGENTLY asking the public to help us during the coming Xmas and Holiday period often a tragic time for many unloved pets. During this time many animals will become unwanted and will need our help. Please remember the animals during this time and help us to rescue as many unwanted and abandoned animals as we can. ARRG needs more carers to house these unwanted animals until a suitable home can be found and Donations to help us to pay food and veterinary bills. ARRG has been rescuing unwanted pets for six years and takes in over a thousand homeless animals each year. We rescue many dogs from pounds that have no chance and will be killed. There is no RSPCA shelter or branch between Coffs Harbour and Tweed Heads, which leaves ARRG to cover the whole of the Far North Coast.

ARRG urgently needs a donation of land to build a shelter for the region. Please call Animal Rescue on 66221881 to offer any help.

Other appeals

  • Dogs can die a hideous death in a car in less that ten minutes do not leave your pet in a car. Even in the shade a car can reach dangerous temperatures in a short time. If you see a dog left in a car please call the police urgently. This is an illegal act.
  • Going away? Do not leave your pet alone at home unless you are sure that the carer is committed to visiting several times each day. Leaving a pet without supervision and proper care is illegal. Good boarding kennels are the safest way to go and you can go away without any worries.
  • No pets for gifts please! Each year puppies & kittens are given as gifts & often they are unwanted animals. A pet is a life commitment and the owner should make the decision and choose the pet themselves.
