National Homeless Animal Day is observed on the 3RD SATURDAY IN AUGUST AROUND THE WORLD.

Please join us on on August 17th, from 4.30 pm at the Amphitheatre near Missingham Bridge, Ballina.

Dogs welcome.

OPENING
Rev. Elaine Fragar will open the vigil with a poem. Various speakers will challenge us on the rights of animals, and remember the many who die.

SPEAKERS
Ballina ranger, Des Bolt will speak on his work with homeless animals. Councillor Marilyn Perkins will speak on behalf of animals. Giselle Toni will speak on the spiritual connection between humans on animals. Barbara Steffensen founder of ARRG will speak about ARRG and the No-Kill movement around the world.

Candles will be lit at 5.30pm – in respect and rememberance of many many thousands of unwanted and homeless animals that have died in shelters and pounds each year.

Millions of dogs & cats are killed in shelters and pounds each year around the world. Millions more are left homeless and starving. This prompted the International Society for Animal Rights, USA, to create National Homeless Animals’ Day in 1992.

Since then many Animal welfare groups worldwide have joined them in holding candlelight vigils on this day. Animal Rights and Rescue Group Far North Coast NSW is holding a candlelight vigil.

Animal Rights and Rescue Group supports the International Society for Animal Rights who founded this worldwide event. ARRG is helping ISAR make this a National Homeless Day in Australia by urging all groups to hold this poignant vigil throughout the country.

Groups in Australia need to alert the public to the horrific number of unwanted animals that die in pounds, vets, shelters, many more dumped, also die. Shocking fact – close to a million unwanted animals killed yearly. It must stop. The only way is to stop the breeding of unwanted animals.

Please support this event and write letters to state & local MPs to control breeding.

Please state that all animals should be desexed unless owned by a registered breeder. Unwanted litters are born to die, either legally or illegally, pet overpopulation is a tragedy that can be stopped simply.

Help us stop this.
